Plastic Surgery Statistics by Country 2026
Key takeaways
- The United States performs the most plastic surgery. It recorded 5,461,476 aesthetic procedures in 2025, or 15.5% of the world total, followed by Brazil (3.22 million) and China (2.84 million).
- Greece leads per person, with South Korea close behind. Greece has 41.8 aesthetic procedures per 1,000 people and South Korea has 38.1. The United States ranks 11th at 15.7.
- Brazil performs the most surgical procedures. Brazil performed 2,361,010 surgical procedures, more than the US. Counting surgery per person, Denmark (16.6 per 1,000) and South Korea (16.3) are effectively tied.
- Global volume dipped in 2025. Plastic surgeons performed 35.2 million aesthetic procedures worldwide, 8.7% fewer than in 2024. The fall came mainly from a 15.7% drop in non-surgical treatments, while surgery was almost flat (-0.4%).
- Eyelid surgery is the world's most common surgical procedure. It grew 16.2% to 2,457,677 procedures and is the No.1 surgery in 24 of the 51 surveyed countries and territories.
- Rankings differ because of data year and measure. When you quote a ranking, give the survey year and say whether it counts all procedures or surgery only.
Which country leads the world in plastic surgery depends on what you measure. You can count total volume, procedures per person, or surgery alone, and each gives a different answer. This page covers all three using the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures 2025, published in September 2026. It is the largest survey ISAPS has run, covering 51 countries and territories.
We rank every location in the survey by total procedures, by procedures per 1,000 people and by type of procedure. The per-person rates are our own calculation using United Nations mid-2025 population estimates. We then add the newest national figures from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS) and Türkiye’s state health tourism company, USHAŞ. The sections below show the full rankings, explain how each figure was calculated, and explain why other rankings you may see online give different answers.

Two things to keep in mind:
- Procedures are not people. One patient can have several procedures, so these rates do not tell you what percentage of the population has had surgery. For the share of Koreans who have had surgery, see what percentage of Koreans have had plastic surgery.
- Foreign patients are included. Procedures are counted in the country where they are performed, so destinations that attract medical tourists rank higher. Surgeons in Lebanon, Lithuania and South Korea all reported that around a quarter or more of their patients came from abroad (ISAPS 2025).
The United Arab Emirates ranked near the top in some earlier per-capita lists. It does not have its own country table in the 2025 survey, so it is not included here.
Surgical procedures per capita
Counting surgery only, Denmark (16.6 per 1,000) and South Korea (16.3) are effectively tied at the top.
| Rank | Country | Surgical procedures per 1,000 people | Surgical procedures |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Denmark | 16.6 | 99,690 |

Non-surgical procedures per capita
For non-surgical treatments alone, Greece leads clearly with 30.0 per 1,000 people, followed by South Korea (21.7) and Italy (15.3).
Which countries have the least plastic surgery?
Among the countries in the survey, Bangladesh has the lowest rate at 0.2 procedures per 1,000 people. It is followed by Indonesia (0.4), the Philippines (0.5), Pakistan (0.6), India (0.7) and Malaysia (1.1). This list covers only the 51 locations with enough survey responses. Countries outside the ISAPS survey are not ranked.
Is plastic surgery becoming less popular?
Not overall, but 2025 was a down year for non-surgical treatments. Worldwide, total aesthetic procedures fell 8.7% compared with 2024, driven by a 15.7% fall in non-surgical procedures. Surgical procedures were almost flat (-0.4%). Over four years, total procedures are still up 9.2% (ISAPS 2025).
| Procedure | 2025 | Change vs 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| All aesthetic procedures | 35,204,030 | -8.7% |
| Surgical procedures | 17,883,610 | -0.4% |
| Non-surgical procedures | 17,320,420 | -15.7% |
| Eyelid surgery | 2,457,677 | +16.2% |

| Liposuction | 1,849,828 | -11.4% |
| Botulinum toxin | 7,333,647 | -7.0% |
| Hyaluronic acid filler | 4,737,957 | -25.2% |
Source: ISAPS 2025, pages 9 and 12. ISAPS notes that comparisons are limited to procedures surveyed in both years. The 2025 survey covered 51 locations, compared with 32 in 2024.
National data points in different directions. In the US, cosmetic surgical procedures rose 7% to 1,523,330. In the UK, procedures by members of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons fell 2% to 26,840.
Most popular plastic surgery by country
Eyelid surgery is the most common surgical procedure in 24 of the 51 countries and territories, including China, Japan, South Korea, Türkiye, Spain and Greece. Liposuction leads in 13, including the US, Brazil, Germany and Mexico. Breast augmentation leads in 8, including Italy, France, the UK and Australia. Rhinoplasty is No.1 only in Iran, Peru and Pakistan.
Botulinum toxin is the most common non-surgical treatment in almost every country. The exceptions are India and Bangladesh, where hair removal leads, and Argentina, Morocco and Kazakhstan, where hyaluronic acid filler leads.
Which country performs the most of each procedure?
| Procedure | Country with the most | Procedures, 2025 | Share of world |
|---|---|---|---|
| Eyelid surgery | China | 306,000 | 12.5% |
| Liposuction | United States | 355,603 | 19.2% |
| Breast augmentation | United States | 241,808 | 14.9% |

South Korea ranks third in the world for botulinum toxin (532,397) and second for hyaluronic acid filler (374,026). Only the US performs more filler procedures.
Surgery-led vs injectables-led countries
Countries differ sharply in what their plastic surgeons do. In Japan, only 20.9% of aesthetic procedures by plastic surgeons are surgical. The rest are non-surgical treatments such as Botox, fillers and laser. At the other end, more than 85% of procedures are surgical in Kazakhstan, the Dominican Republic, the UK, Indonesia and Denmark.
| Most surgery-led | Surgical share | Most non-surgical-led | Surgical share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kazakhstan | 90.5% | Japan | 20.9% |
| Dominican Republic | 89.0% | Greece | 28.3% |
| United Kingdom | 88.6% | Taiwan | 38.5% |
| Indonesia | 88.3% | Italy | 38.9% |
| Denmark | 85.9% | United States | 40.8% |
Our calculation from ISAPS 2025 country pages.
Low surgical shares partly reflect who performs injectables. In many countries, dermatologists and other doctors give most Botox and filler treatments, and ISAPS counts only procedures performed by plastic surgeons.
Which countries have the most plastic surgeons?
ISAPS estimates there are 60,381 plastic surgeons worldwide.
| Rank | Country | Estimated plastic surgeons |

National plastic surgery statistics: US, UK and Turkey
United States
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) counted 1,523,330 cosmetic surgical procedures in 2025, up 7%. The top five were liposuction (317,196), breast augmentation (304,234), tummy tuck (173,251), breast lift (156,131) and eyelid surgery (118,978, up 19%). Patients aged 66 and over grew fastest (+24%), while patients aged 18 to 25 fell 9%. Men had 89,617 cosmetic surgical procedures (ASPS 2025 report). ASPS and ISAPS use different methods, so their US totals differ.
United Kingdom
BAAPS members performed 26,840 cosmetic surgical procedures in 2025, down 2%. Breast augmentation remained the most popular (4,761, down 8%), followed by breast reduction and eyelid surgery. Men accounted for 6.1% of procedures, and eyelid surgery overtook rhinoplasty as their most popular procedure (BAAPS, April 2026). The audit covers BAAPS members only, not all cosmetic surgery in the UK.
Turkey
Türkiye received 1,398,580 international health tourists in 2025, down from 1,506,442 in 2024. They generated US$3.02 billion, according to the state health tourism company USHAŞ (USHAŞ 2025 annual report). These figures cover all health tourism, not only cosmetic procedures.
Who gets plastic surgery?
Women received 85.2% of all aesthetic procedures worldwide in 2025. Eyelid surgery was the most common surgical procedure for both women and men. Most botulinum toxin patients (47%) were aged 35 to 50, while 57% of rhinoplasty patients were aged 18 to 34 (ISAPS 2025). ISAPS reports gender and age but not ethnicity, so there is no current international data on which ethnic groups have the most plastic surgery.
Plastic surgery in Asia
Four of the world’s top 10 countries by volume are in Asia, and the differences between Asian countries are large:
| Country or territory | World rank by total | Procedures per 1,000 people | Surgical share |
|---|---|---|---|
| China | 3 | 2.0 | 49.5% |
| Japan | 4 | 16.6 | 20.9% |
| South Korea | 5 | 38.1 | 42.9% |
| India | 10 | 0.7 | 54.2% |
| Taiwan | 13 | 23.2 | 38.5% |
| Vietnam | 21 | 3.2 | 76.6% |
| Thailand | 26 | 2.3 | 76.4% |
| Singapore | 48 | 5.4 | 63.2% |

Why plastic surgery rankings disagree
Different pages give different answers to “which country has the highest rate”, mostly because they use different years and measures.
| Ranking you may see | Data year | What it measures | Leader |
|---|---|---|---|
| Widely copied “per capita” top 20 (South Korea 8.90 per 1,000) | 2021 | Appears to count surgical procedures only | South Korea |
| Other recent rankings | 2024 | All procedures, 2024 survey | Greece |
| This page | 2025 | All procedures, ISAPS 2025, UN mid-2025 population | Greece (41.8), South Korea (38.1) |
| This page, surgery only | 2025 | Surgical procedures only | Denmark (16.6), South Korea (16.3) |
Rankings also differ for other reasons. The number of countries in the survey changes each year (51 in 2025, 32 in 2024). South Korea was missing from the published country rankings for several years before 2025. Some pages also divide by out-of-date population figures. When you quote a ranking, give the data year and say whether it counts all procedures or surgery only.
Methodology and sources
- Procedure data comes from the ISAPS International Survey on Aesthetic/Cosmetic Procedures 2025, published 29 September 2026. ISAPS surveys about 2,900 plastic surgeons and projects national totals from each country’s estimated number of plastic surgeons. It counts only procedures performed by plastic surgeons.
- Coverage is limited to the 51 countries and territories with their own country pages in the 2025 survey. Together they account for 30.5 million of the 35.2 million procedures worldwide.
- Per-capita rates are our calculation: ISAPS 2025 procedures divided by UN World Population Prospects 2024 estimates for 1 July 2025 (medium variant).
- Ranks beyond the top 10, shares, and counts of most common procedures are our calculation from the ISAPS country pages.
- National figures come from ASPS (US), BAAPS (UK) and USHAŞ (Türkiye). These organizations use their own methods, so their figures should not be added to ISAPS totals.
