Botox Statistics 2026: How Many People Get Botox?
Key takeaways
- Botox is the world's most popular cosmetic procedure. Plastic surgeons performed 7,333,647 botulinum toxin treatments worldwide in 2025, 42% of all non-surgical procedures (ISAPS).
- Patients are mostly women in midlife. Women received 84.6% of treatments worldwide, and 47% of patients were aged 35 to 50.
- US counts depend on who is surveyed. ISAPS counts 1.46 million US treatments by plastic surgeons, while ASPS estimates 9.88 million neuromodulator treatments in 2024 across a wider group of doctors.
- Only a small minority of women have had Botox. A 2025 Yahoo News/YouGov poll found at least 3% of US women had tried it. The popular "42% of women" figure comes from a self-selected magazine poll.
- Greece and South Korea lead per person. Greece has 11.8 treatments per 1,000 people and South Korea 10.3, well ahead of the US at 4.2.
- Brand sales and treatment volume are not the same thing. Botox Cosmetic revenue fell 4.3% to $2.602 billion in 2025, while rivals Dysport and Jeuveau grew by double digits.
- Counterfeit toxin is the main safety risk. The CDC linked 17 harmful reactions in 9 US states to counterfeit or mishandled toxin given in non-medical settings.
This page is a single reference for the latest data on Botox and similar botulinum toxin products. It covers how many treatments are done, which countries perform the most, who the patients are, what the procedure costs, how the market is changing, and what the FDA label says about doses and side effects. “Botox” is a brand name. Unless stated otherwise, the figures cover all botulinum toxin products, sometimes called neuromodulators.
We rely mainly on primary sources: the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) Global Survey, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) annual reports, FDA prescribing information, CDC outbreak reports, national polls by YouGov, and company financial results. Each source measures something slightly different, so we explain below where the numbers come from and why they do not always agree.

How Many People Get Botox Each Year?
Plastic surgeons worldwide performed 7,333,647 botulinum toxin treatments in 2025, down 7.0% from 7,887,955 in 2024 but up 0.3% from 2021 (ISAPS 2025). It is the most common cosmetic procedure of any kind, surgical or non-surgical, and the most common non-surgical treatment for both women and men and in every age group.
These are counts of treatments, not people. Many patients have Botox two or three times a year, so the number of people treated is lower than the number of treatments.
Botox in the United States
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons estimated 9,883,711 neuromodulator treatments in the US in 2024, up 4% from 9,480,949 in 2023 and 8,736,591 in 2022. For 2025, ASPS published only shares: neuromodulators made up about half of all minimally invasive cosmetic procedures, and hyaluronic acid fillers another 30% (ASPS 2025 report).
Why the ISAPS and ASPS Numbers Differ
ISAPS counts 1.46 million treatments in the US; ASPS counts 9.88 million. They measure different things:
| Measure | ISAPS | ASPS |
|---|---|---|
| Who is counted | Plastic surgeons only | Board-certified plastic surgeons plus dermatologists and otolaryngologists |
| Coverage | 51 countries and territories | United States only |
| Latest US figure | 1,456,812 (2025) | 9,883,711 (2024) |
Neither covers every injector. Nurses, medical spas and other doctors give a large share of Botox, so both figures probably undercount total use. When you quote a number, name the source.
Which Countries Do the Most Botox?
The United States performs the most botulinum toxin treatments, followed by China and South Korea.
| Rank | Country | Treatments by plastic surgeons, 2025 | Share of world |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | United States | 1,456,812 | 19.9% |
| 2 | China | 566,000 | 7.7% |
| 3 | South Korea | 532,397 | 7.3% |
| 4 | Germany | 503,677 | 6.9% |
| 5 | Japan | 448,301 | 6.1% |
| 6 | Brazil | 381,374 | 5.2% |
| 7 | Italy | 353,800 | 4.8% |
| 8 | Mexico | 296,516 | 4.0% |
| 9 | Türkiye | 280,060 | 3.8% |
| 10 | France | 164,325 | 2.2% |

Botox per Capita by Country
Per person, Greece and South Korea lead by a wide margin.
| Rank | Country or territory | Treatments per 1,000 people |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Greece | 11.8 |
| 2 | South Korea | 10.3 |
| 3 | Lebanon | 6.8 |
| 4 | Lithuania | 6.6 |
| 5 | Taiwan | 6.3 |
| 6 | Germany | 6.0 |
| 6 | Italy | 6.0 |
| 6 | Belgium | 6.0 |
| 9 | United States | 4.2 |
| 10 | Finland | 4.0 |
Our calculation: ISAPS 2025 botulinum toxin treatments by country divided by UN World Population Prospects 2024 population for mid-2025.
Botulinum toxin is the most common non-surgical treatment in almost every surveyed country. In South Korea it is 47.4% of all non-surgical procedures by plastic surgeons. Low figures in some countries, such as the UK and India, mostly reflect that Botox there is usually given by doctors other than plastic surgeons, whom ISAPS does not count. For the wider picture, see our Korean beauty industry statistics.
What Percentage of Women Get Botox?
There is no nationally representative survey that measures how many women have ever had Botox. The best available polls suggest it is a small minority of women, although many more are open to it.
| Source | Who was asked | Finding |
|---|---|---|
| Yahoo News/YouGov, March 2025 | 1,677 US adults, weighted online panel | 10% of women and 4% of men have had any cosmetic procedure; at least 3% of women have tried Botox; 12% of women are likely to try it |
| YouGov, February 2026 | 1,098 US adults | 14% of women and 2% of men “have gotten or would ever consider” injectables such as Botox |
| YouGov Australia, January 2024 | 1,020 Australians | 10% of women and 8% of men had Botox in the past 18 months |
The widely shared claim that “42% of women get Botox” comes from a self-selected magazine poll of about 200 women aged 30 to 45, so it does not describe women in general.
What the procedure data does show is that Botox patients are overwhelmingly women: 84.6% of treatments worldwide (ISAPS 2025) and 94% in the US (ASPS 2024).
Botox and Men
Men received about 15% of botulinum toxin treatments worldwide in 2025 (1.13 million, our calculation from ISAPS). In the US, men had 593,854 neuromodulator treatments in 2024, about 6% of the total and up 4.3% (ASPS). Botox is the most popular non-surgical treatment for men as well as women.
Botox by Age
| Age group | Share of botulinum toxin treatments worldwide, 2025 |
|---|---|
| Under 18 | 0.6% |
| 18 to 34 | 20.9% |
| 35 to 50 | 47.0% |
| 51 to 64 | 24.7% |
| 65 and over | 6.8% |
Source: ISAPS 2025, page 107.
In the US, 57% of neuromodulator treatments in 2024 were for patients aged 40 to 54 (ASPS). Interest among younger people is rising: 57% of facial plastic surgeons said more patients under 30 were asking for injectables or other cosmetic procedures in 2025 (AAFPRS, Feb 2026).
Is Botox Becoming Less Popular?
Botox-type treatments are still the world’s most popular cosmetic procedure, but 2025 was a softer year, and the Botox brand is losing ground to rivals.
- Volume: worldwide treatments by plastic surgeons fell 7.0% in 2025, as part of a wider 15.7% fall in non-surgical procedures (ISAPS 2025).
- Botox brand: AbbVie’s global Botox Cosmetic revenue fell 4.3% to $2.602 billion in 2025. US revenue fell 10.5% to $1.504 billion while international revenue rose 5.7%.
- Competitors are growing: Galderma’s neuromodulator sales (mainly Dysport) rose 14.3% at constant currency to $1.471 billion, and Evolus (Jeuveau) grew total revenue 12% to $297.2 million (Galderma; Evolus).
So a fall in Botox brand sales does not by itself mean fewer people are getting toxin treatments.
Botox vs Dysport, Xeomin, Jeuveau, Daxxify and Letybo
| Product | Maker | FDA approval for frown lines |
|---|---|---|
| Botox Cosmetic | AbbVie (Allergan) | 12 April 2002 |
| Dysport | Galderma (Ipsen) | 29 April 2009 |
| Xeomin | Merz | 2011 |
| Jeuveau | Evolus (made by Daewoong, South Korea) | 1 February 2019 |
| Daxxify | Revance | 7 September 2022 |
| Letybo | Hugel (South Korea) | 29 February 2024 |

How Much Does Botox Cost?
The average US physician fee for neuromodulator injections was $435 per treatment in 2023, according to ASPS, down from $528 in 2022. The Aesthetic Society’s billing data put the average charge at $326 per treatment in 2022.
| Source | Year | Estimated Average Cost | What it measures |
|---|---|---|---|
| ASPS | 2023 | $435 | Surveyed physician fee per session |
| ASPS | 2022 | $528 | Surveyed physician fee per session |
| The Aesthetic Society | 2022 | $326 | Average charge per treatment, from practice billing |
| The Aesthetic Society | 2021 | $371 | Average charge per treatment |
2023 is the latest year ASPS published a neuromodulator fee. Fees vary by area treated, number of units, city and provider, and exclude any facility charges.
*Important Pricing Note (Terms and Conditions Apply): These figures are historical US survey and billing averages and are general market/planning estimates only, not fixed hospital or clinic quotations. Terms and conditions apply. The final price can only be confirmed after an in-person consultation and examination at the hospital or clinic, and may be higher or lower depending on the areas treated, number of units, product used and individual complexity.

How Many Units of Botox Are Used?
The FDA-approved doses of Botox Cosmetic are set by treatment area. Your injector decides the actual dose.
| Area | FDA-approved dose | FDA approval |
|---|---|---|
| Frown lines (glabellar lines) | 20 units (4 units at 5 sites) | 2002 |
| Crow’s feet (lateral canthal lines) | 24 units (4 units at 3 sites per side) | 2013 |
| Forehead lines | 40 units (20 forehead plus 20 frown lines, treated together) | 2017 |
| Neck bands (platysma bands) | 26, 31 or 36 units, depending on the number of bands | 2024 |
Source: Botox Cosmetic prescribing information, revised October 2024. The label says treatment more often than every 3 months has not been shown to be safe and effective. Units are not interchangeable between brands.
Korean Botulinum Toxin Brands
Korea has its own botulinum toxin industry, and Korean-made brands such as Botulax (Hugel), Nabota (Daewoong) and Meditoxin (Medytox) are widely used at home and exported. Two of them are now FDA-approved in the US: Daewoong’s toxin as Jeuveau (2019) and Hugel’s as Letybo (2024).
- Hugel’s 2025 toxin sales were KRW 233.8 billion, and Daewoong’s Nabota sold KRW 228.9 billion.
- Korea exported US$430 million of toxins and toxoids, the customs category that includes botulinum toxin, in January to September 2026, up 43.1% (KHIDI, via Medipana).
Many visitors to Seoul combine toxin treatments with skin treatments; see why some people spend more on skin boosters than fillers and skin boosters.
How Big Is the Botox Market?
The clearest figures come from company results. AbbVie’s Botox Cosmetic earned $2.602 billion in 2025. Its medical version, Botox Therapeutic, used for conditions such as chronic migraine, earned more: $3.769 billion, up 14.8%. Galderma’s neuromodulators earned $1.471 billion.
Market research firms publish wider estimates for all botulinum toxin products, cosmetic and medical. Their totals vary by definition, so use company revenue for the cosmetic market where possible.
Is Botox Safe? What the Data Shows
- Clinical trial side effects: in the FDA label, eyelid drooping affected 3% of patients treated for frown lines (0% on placebo), eyelid swelling 1% for crow’s feet, and headache 9% for forehead lines (5% on placebo).
- Boxed warning: the label warns that toxin effects can spread beyond the injection site, causing swallowing and breathing problems that can be life-threatening.
- Counterfeit Botox: in 2023 and 2024, the CDC linked 17 cases of harmful reactions in 9 US states to counterfeit or mishandled toxin; 13 people were hospitalised and 6 were treated with botulism antitoxin. The injections were given by unlicensed or untrained people or in non-medical settings such as homes and spas (CDC). In 2025, three women were hospitalised after injecting toxin they bought online from vendors in Asia (CDC MMWR, 2025).
The FDA said the 2024 illnesses were not linked to genuine, FDA-approved Botox. Choose a licensed medical provider using an approved product. Read more on whether medical tourism is safe.
Methodology and Sources
- Global and country figures come from the ISAPS International Survey 2025, which projects national totals from a survey of plastic surgeons and counts only procedures they perform.
- US figures come from ASPS. Its counting method has changed over time, so long-run comparisons are not like for like. ASPS published no 2025 neuromodulator count.
- Per-capita rates are our calculation using UN World Population Prospects 2024 (mid-2025).
- Polls are weighted online panels, not probability samples, and question wording differs.
- Company revenue comes from AbbVie, Galderma, Evolus and Hugel results releases.
