Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur, better known as CVSKL, is a private hospital in the centre of Kuala Lumpur that focuses entirely on the heart and blood vessels. It opened in November 2017, founded by Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Yahya Awang, the heart surgeon who helped establish Malaysia’s National Heart Institute. He still serves as chairman today.Patients fly in from across Southeast Asia, many of them from Indonesia: Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Makassar, Pontianak. From Medan the flight is a little over an hour. One reason comes up again and again, and it is not the technology. It is speed: test results come back in hours rather than weeks, and an evaluation, sometimes the procedure itself, can be finished in a day or two.
That is the advantage of doing only one thing. The hospital does not try to cover every field of medicine, so the equipment and the people using it are matched to the same kind of work every day.
